Karachi: Thanks to the efforts of customs officials, the problem of clearance of ghee and cooking oil from ports has been resolved, as a result of which the fear of possible shortage has been eliminated, so the uninterrupted supply of ghee and cooking oil will continue during Ramadan.
Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association Chairman Sheikh Umar Rehan told the members in the association’s meeting that the personal efforts of Chief Collector Customs Jamil Nasir, Collector Port Qasim Nayar Shafiq and other senior officials are involved in resolving this crisis.
He said that all speculations regarding the shortage of ghee and cooking oil have died down. The fear of price hike due to possible shortage of ghee and cooking oil during Ramadan has also been eliminated.
Sheikh Umar Rehan said that the customs authorities have amicably resolved the problem of cooking oil at the port, the problem of clearance at the port has been resolved, due to which the supply of ghee and cooking oil in sufficient quantity will continue.
He appealed to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Port Qasim Authority that the issue of demurrage of shipments is still pending, due to lack of space at the port, members are still facing demurrage fines. These demurrage charges and fines are likely to cause serious losses to the members.
Sheikh Umar Rehan appealed to the port authorities to abolish demurrage and other fines on edible oil shipments.
The PVMA Chairman said that the supply of edible oil and ghee has been restored in the country, due to which there is no possibility of any shortage in the coming days.
