Washington: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that he will not approve any attempt to cooperate with Israel within NATO, and if such an attempt is made, it will be unacceptable.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during a press conference in Washington, D.C. after the NATO summit that it is not possible for the Israeli administration to continue its partnership with NATO because Israel has violated our alliance, Anatolia news agency reported. Basic values have been trampled.
Erdogan said that the informal meetings during the NATO summit have drawn the attention of the leaders to the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and especially in Gaza.
He said that the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration, due to its expansionist and cruel policies, has not only endangered the security of its citizens, but also endangered the entire region.
The Turkish president emphasized that until a comprehensive and lasting peace is established in Palestine, Turkey will not approve the cooperation effort with Israel within NATO.
The NATO defense alliance consists of 32 members but has relations with many non-member countries and international organizations and is referred to as NATO’s partners.
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of this military alliance, a three-day meeting of NATO leaders was held in the United States.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said it is important for responsible members of the international community to unite for a two-state solution based on the 1967 border between Israel and Palestine.
He said that despite all kinds of pressure and threats, there has been an increase in the recognition of Palestine by many countries, which we are happy about.
He urged other countries to file a complaint against Israel in the International Court of Justice.
Erdoğan said that Turkey is ready for any measures, including guarantees, to establish a cease-fire and permanent peace in Gaza.
“I will urge all our allies to urge the Netanyahu administration to ensure a ceasefire and humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza,” the Turkish president said.
