The Pakistan Flour Mills Association has started a nationwide strike against the withholding tax, including in Karachi, and flour mills across the country have stopped grinding wheat from today.
Chairman Pakistan Flour Mills Association South Aamir Abdullah says that from today we have started a strike for an indefinite period, under which flour mills across the country, including Karachi, have stopped the supply of flour. He said that during this time the supply of buffalo colonies and animal bran will also be badly affected.
Aamir Abdullah said that due to the implementation of withholding tax, flour will be expensive by 8 to 10 rupees per kg. Grinding process in flour mills will be stopped till one point demand is not accepted. Flour millers cannot become withholding agents. Tax collection is the government’s job, not ours. We are already paying tax already, can give more, only procedural objection.
Meanwhile, there is fear of flour crisis due to stoppage of supply across the country during the strike by flour mills.
Meanwhile, more than 250 flour mills have been closed in all districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, by flour mill owners. In the first phase, washing was stopped in all flour mills of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a result of the announcement of a strike by the flour mill owners against the increase in two holding taxes, and wheat grinding and flour supply in the market from today. has been closed.
Banners of closure of mills and protest strike have been displayed on the outer gates of flour mills. Likewise, flour vendors have also sat in protest in the markets. Group leader Flour Mills Association Muhammad Naeem Butt says that until the federal government abolishes the withholding tax on flour, MDI rate increases in electricity bills. The Flour Mills Association will continue the strike for an indefinite period until the government does not lift the ban on free movement of wheat from Punjab.
