WhatsApp is working on an interesting new themed icon that hints at a new theme for contacts and group chats for its users in a future update.
Currently, the icons for contacts, group chats, and communities are displayed in a gray color that provides a simple and uniform look without profile photos.
However, WhatsApp is now planning to introduce dynamic colors to these icons, which will make it easier to visually identify contacts and groups at a glance as users will be able to associate specific colors with specific chats.
It is worth noting that the concept of this feature is very similar to the colored icons seen in the address book of the Android stock app, where each contact is visually identified by a color-coded icon.
Under the feature, when a contact has not set a profile picture or has chosen to hide it due to privacy settings, WhatsApp will automatically display a differently themed icon for that contact.
