What Kind of Person Does Mehwish Hayat Want to Marry? Actress Speaks About Love, Career, and Showbiz Double Standards
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Pakistani actress and model Mehwish Hayat, known for her powerful performances both locally and internationally, has once again grabbed headlines—not for a film release, but for opening up about her views on marriage, romance, career ambitions, and the double standards in the entertainment industry.

In a recent candid interview, the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz recipient not only discussed her acting journey but also spoke in-depth about her personal life, offering insights into what kind of life partner she is looking for and why she sees marriage as a “gamble” rather than a necessity.

Mehwish Hayat’s Perspective on Marriage: A Gamble, Not a Race

Marriage Isn’t a Race Against Time

During her conversation with the interviewer, Mehwish Hayat emphasized that she is not in a hurry to tie the knot. In her own words, “Marriage is a gamble.” She believes it is a decision that must not be rushed and one that should only be made when there is complete emotional clarity and mutual understanding.

This sentiment reflects a growing mindset among many career-oriented women in Pakistan who are increasingly choosing to prioritize mental peace, compatibility, and self-growth over societal pressure to marry young.

What She Looks for in a Life Partner

While Mehwish did not mention any specific “checklist,” she was clear about what matters most to her: a man who provides peace of mind and unwavering support. The actress, who has been romantically linked with various public figures over the years—none of which she has publicly confirmed—said she wants a partner who adds to her confidence, not someone who imposes limitations or insecurities.

“I’m certainly a romantic,” Mehwish said, “but also a realist. I don’t believe in fairy tales—I believe in understanding and peace.”

Her Take on the Showbiz Industry’s Gender Double Standards

Men Get Better Roles Despite Age—Why Not Women?

In her interview, Mehwish strongly criticized the patriarchal attitudes prevalent in the Pakistani entertainment industry. She pointed out how aging male actors continue to get cast opposite young female leads, while women are frequently sidelined once they hit a certain age.

“It’s quite unfair,” she noted. “Men continue to play heroes in their late 40s and even 50s, but if a woman crosses 35, she is seen as outdated. Why this double standard?”

Mehwish compared this practice with the Western entertainment industries, where age is not the defining factor—talent and fitness matter more. She also praised Bollywood for slowly embracing actresses who maintain their fitness and acting prowess regardless of age.

Merit vs. Age in Casting Decisions

She emphasized that skill, experience, and versatility should be the real criteria in casting decisions. “Unfortunately, in our industry, a woman’s value is often tied to her age and appearance rather than her talent and hard work,” she lamented.

This criticism from Mehwish Hayat is a bold but necessary call to action, urging decision-makers in the Pakistani entertainment world to adopt more inclusive and progressive casting standards.

Mehwish Hayat’s Growing Interest in Direction

An Eye for Storytelling

Interestingly, Mehwish also revealed a new chapter in her career aspirations—she wants to become a director. She said that during her time on drama and film sets, she has developed a keen interest in understanding the nuances of storytelling, shot composition, and character development.

“I closely observe the way directors work,” she shared. “From camera angles to actor coordination—I’ve been soaking it all in because I do see myself wearing the director’s hat someday.”

This signals a significant shift for the actress, who has long been celebrated for her on-screen charisma, and now looks forward to shaping stories behind the camera as well.

Breaking the Stereotypes: A Voice for Empowered Women

Challenging Norms in Public and Personal Life

Mehwish Hayat has never shied away from being vocal—whether it’s about politics, women’s rights, or her own personal decisions. Her stance on marriage, career independence, and gender equality makes her one of the most progressive voices in Pakistan’s entertainment industry.

She has also been known to take strong stances on issues like:

  • Women empowerment
  • Freedom of expression
  • Misogyny in media coverage

From defending herself against unfounded rumors to highlighting gender discrimination, she consistently uses her platform to empower other women.

Role Model for the Modern Pakistani Woman

Mehwish’s boldness and clarity make her a role model for many young women in Pakistan, who are trying to balance tradition with personal ambition. Her views reflect a modern-day reality where women want to marry for the right reasons, not just because society says it’s time.

A Star with Global Recognition

Her Hollywood Debut and International Presence

Apart from her contributions to Pakistani cinema, Mehwish has made a mark internationally. She was cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series “Ms. Marvel”, where she played a powerful role, bringing global recognition to her name.

Her participation in an international franchise proves that Pakistani artists can excel on the global stage, and her future plans suggest she’s just getting started.

Conclusion: Mehwish Hayat Chooses Peace, Not Pressure

In an industry where female celebrities are constantly bombarded with questions about their marriage plans, Mehwish Hayat stands firm in her belief that peace, compatibility, and emotional stability are the real foundations of a successful relationship.

Her perspective offers a refreshing counter-narrative to the traditional expectations placed on women, especially in South Asia. Whether it’s through her performances, her social statements, or her future in directing, Mehwish continues to break barriers—on her terms.

For fans and followers, the message is clear: Mehwish Hayat is in control of her life, her career, and her future—and she’s not compromising.
