US-Iran Ceasefire: Pakistan Hosts Talks as US-Iran Agree to 2-Week Truce, Talks Set for April 10 in Islamabad
Two-week ceasefire will be bilateral, Donald Trump

Islamabad, April 8, 2026: In a significant diplomatic development, a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran has been announced, with Pakistan playing a key mediating role. The move is being seen as a major step toward de-escalation in the Middle East.
US President Donald Trump confirmed the temporary halt to potential military action against Iran, stating that the decision came after discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir. According to him, Pakistan requested a delay in any planned military strikes, paving the way for diplomacy.
The ceasefire, described as bilateral, will remain in effect for two weeks, during which both sides are expected to engage in negotiations. High-level talks between US and Iranian leadership are scheduled to take place in Islamabad on April 10.
President Trump stated that the United States is willing to suspend attacks if Iran ensures the full, immediate, and secure opening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route. He added that the US has already achieved most of its military objectives and is now focusing on a long-term peace arrangement.
In a key development, Iran has reportedly submitted a 10-point proposal, which US officials consider a workable foundation for negotiations. Trump noted that several longstanding points of contention have already been addressed, raising hopes for a broader agreement.
“The next two weeks will be crucial in finalizing a peace deal,” Trump said, calling the ceasefire a “major opportunity” to move closer to lasting stability in the region.
The upcoming Islamabad talks are expected to play a decisive role in shaping the future of US-Iran relations, with Pakistan emerging as a central diplomatic facilitator in this high-stakes dialogue.
Abbas Araqchi thanks Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and has expressed special gratitude to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Abbas Araqchi said that Pakistan has played a continuous and effective role in ending the war in the region, which is yielding positive results.
He made it clear that if the attacks against Iran are stopped, the Iranian forces will also suspend their operations.
According to the Iranian Foreign Minister, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be made possible for two weeks, however, this process will be carried out in full coordination with the Iranian armed forces and keeping in mind the technical limitations.
On the other hand, Iran has also presented a 10-point proposal for negotiations, which includes important demands. According to these proposals, Iran’s right to enrich uranium should be recognized, all sanctions imposed on Iran should be lifted, and strong guarantees should be provided against any future attack.

Islamabad Emerges as Diplomatic Hub for US-Iran Truce
Thanks to the successful diplomacy of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, a major breakthrough has been made. It has been agreed to hold direct talks between Iran and the United States in Islamabad, where Pakistan will play the role of mediator.
According to a statement by the Iranian National Supreme Council, the talks between the two countries will begin in Islamabad from April 10 and this process can continue for a maximum of 15 days. The main objective of the talks is to reach a final and lasting agreement.
According to Arab media, Islamabad has been chosen as the venue for the talks with the United States, while Qatari media has also broadcast the news of the Iranian National Supreme Council confirming the ceasefire.
According to Iranian officials, the main goal of the talks will be to formalize the achievements achieved in the recent war into a formal agreement, while if both sides agree, the talks can be further extended.
On the other hand, US President Donald J. Trump has announced the suspension of operations against Iran for two weeks.
According to him, this decision was taken after discussions with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who requested to prevent a possible catastrophe in Iran.
President Trump made it clear that this ceasefire is conditional on Iran’s assurance of the complete and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz and is being described as a bilateral ceasefire.
According to international media reports, Iran has also accepted the ceasefire proposed by Pakistan, which was approved by Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

The impact of the ceasefire, a decline in the global oil market, a rise in stock markets

The announcement of a conditional two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran has sparked a major reaction in global markets, with oil prices falling significantly while stock markets have seen a huge rally.
The price of global benchmark Brent crude fell by about 15.9% to $92.30 per barrel, while crude oil traded in the US market also fell by about 16.5% to $93.80 per barrel.
However, according to experts, prices are still higher than the level where oil was trading at about $70 per barrel on February 28, before the conflict began.
It should be remembered that the supply of oil and gas was severely affected due to tensions in the Middle East, especially after Iran threatened to attack ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Stock markets in the Asia-Pacific region also saw a huge rally after the ceasefire.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 index rose 4.5 percent, while South Korea’s Kospi index rose 5.5 percent.
US President Donald Trump said that the bombing of Iran is being suspended for two weeks provided that Iran is ready to fully, immediately and safely open the Strait of Hormuz.
On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi also indicated that if the attacks against Iran are stopped, Tehran is ready for a ceasefire and safe transportation through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible.
