Washington: US President Donald Trump has given Hamas a final warning to release the hostages held in Gaza.
According to the British news agency, Trump said in a long post on his social media platform Truth Social that I am providing Israel with everything it needs to complete this task, if you do not do as I say, no member of Hamas will be safe.
This came a few hours after the White House confirmed that it was in direct talks with Hamas to release the hostages.
Until now, the United States had avoided direct contact with terrorist groups like Hamas. Trump said in his post that if the hostages were not released as soon as possible, the consequences would be serious, and also threatened Hamas leaders to leave Gaza.
Trump also warned the citizens of Gaza that if the hostages are not released, there is no future for your life.
This is not the first time that Trump has made such threats to Hamas, before that in December he had said that if the hostages are not released, the world will end for them.
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt confirmed that the United States has held two direct meetings with Hamas to release the hostages, led by US special envoy Adam Boehler. Israeli officials were informed of these negotiations.
Currently, according to Israel, there are 59 hostages in Hamas custody, of whom 24 are alive and 5 are American citizens.
According to reports, meetings have been held between US officials and Hamas in the Qatari capital Doha, where according to former US officials, the United States needs to be more active in releasing its citizens.
