MUMBAI: Rajinikanth, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar are the most successful actors in the Indian film world who have given the film industry several blockbuster films, but none of them could reach the record of Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay, whose seven consecutive films have done a business of more than two billion rupees.
Thalapathy Vijay’s name may be unfamiliar to Hindi film fans, but he has the same status in Tamil film industry as Shah Rukh Khan in Bollywood.
Vijay Joseph, who is called Thalapathy (Commander) Vijay by his fans, has films that have earned more than two billion rupees in a row.
According to a film magazine, the 50-year-old superstar’s 2017 film ‘Mersal’ earned Rs 220 crore worldwide. The 2018 film ‘Sarkar’ earned Rs 252 crore. The box office project has once again been ruled by the release of ‘Baggal’ in 2019. Bagal earned Rs 295 crore.
The Corona epidemic in 2020 could not be a setback in the path of Vijay’s successes, and in 2021 his next film ‘Master’ was declared a blockbuster by earning Rs 223 crore. In 2022, ‘Best’ was declared the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year with a revenue of Rs 216 crore. Then the very next year, ‘Varisu’ earned Rs 297 crore, increasing the bank balance of the superstar and the filmmakers.
In 2023, Thalapathy Vijay’s film ‘Love’ was released and created a sensation at the box office. The action-packed and thrilling film set new records by earning more than Rs 3 billion domestically and more than Rs 5 billion at the global box office.
The historic success of 7 consecutive films has put Vijay among the most successful and highest-paid actors in the Indian film industry, however, only Vijay has the distinction of having seven consecutive films grossing more than Rs 2 billion.
