KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to allocate 100 million rupees to increase the processing and production of dates in Khairpur and to provide more facilities to women involved in dates and other businesses.
Provincial Agriculture Minister Mohammad Bakhsh Mehr announced to further activate the research center established in Kot Diji to provide relief to the farmers. He said that Pakistan exports the most dry dates to India, United Arab Emirates and Bangladesh. Pakistan is the second largest exporter of dates in the world.
He said that the Sindh government has made a plan to restore and increase the date crop, under which 100 million rupees have been allocated for date processing in Khairpur this year. The provincial government is ensuring practical measures to increase the productivity of the agricultural sector.
The Agriculture Minister said that the covered dates grown in Sindh are very popular globally especially because of their unique taste and texture. Sindh government is giving special attention to agriculture in the province. Due to climate change, the date crop has been damaged in Khairpur, Sukkur and Ghotki in recent rains. Apart from these, complaints of water shortage are being received from the farmers in other districts as well.
