BIRMINGHAM: Traces of long-lasting ‘forever chemicals’ have been found in water samples around the world, a new study has revealed.
The study found fluoroalkyl compounds (PFAs) in more than 99 percent of water bottles collected from 15 countries for testing. In addition, 10 specific PFEs were found in taps and bottles from major cities in the UK and China. Marked in the water.
PFEs can accumulate in living organisms and are associated with serious health problems. These compounds can be added to water effluents through daily activities, including those used in various products such as pesticides, non-stick utensils, food packaging and cosmetics.
A study published by researchers from the University of Birmingham, Southern University of Science and Technology Shenzhen and Henan University found that perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) are PFEs were present in almost all bottled water samples obtained from 15 countries.
The study also revealed that a wide range of specific PFEs were present in the bottles tested, starting at 63 percent.
