Lahore: There is a strike of petroleum dealers across the country today, while business continues at most pumps in the capital of Punjab.
There is a nationwide strike today due to the call of the Petroleum Dealers Association against the taxes in the federal budget. During this time, many petrol pumps are closed on important highways including small and big cities, but business is continuing at most of the petrol pumps in Lahore.
Secretary General Petroleum Dealers Association Khawaja Atif says that we have not been consulted regarding the strike, we will not advance this political agenda. We gave conditional support. He said that the tax rate is high, due to which it has become difficult to do business.
It should be noted that the negotiations between the All Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association and the government on the issue of taxes have failed once again and the deadlock remains, on which the association had announced to keep the pumps closed throughout the country except Islamabad. As soon as twelve o’clock, on the call of the association, the owners in other areas of the country, including Karachi, closed the pumps and stopped the supply of petroleum products, due to which the citizens are facing difficulties.
On the other hand, the Petroleum Division and OGRA issued instructions to the owners to keep the petrol pumps open. According to OGRA Spokesperson Imran Ghaznavi, OGRA and Petroleum Division have said in their joint statement that petroleum products will remain available throughout the country. The country is rich in petroleum products.
