Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has been used to transform the healthcare sector in Pakistan.
For the first time in Pakistan, the Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi has started using AI technology to transform the healthcare sector.
The Aga Khan Hospital has embraced the use of artificial intelligence as a key tool to transform healthcare delivery. The use of artificial intelligence tools such as predictive analytics is helping to save lives, identify potential complications and ensure timely intervention.
The use of artificial intelligence tools is also helping to analyze large volumes of patient data and identify diseases to help and guide personalized treatment planning, while AI-powered imaging tools are also helping to detect anomalies in X-ray MRI and CT scans.
Dr. Saleem Sayani, Director, Technology Innovation Support Center, Aga Khan University, told The Express Tribune in an exclusive interview that AI is not replacing human intelligence but supporting it and this support will revolutionize the field of medicine.
He said that with the help of this technology, it will be possible to accurately diagnose cancer, heart disease and other complex diseases, while it will also be possible to detect possible epidemics.
In response to a question, he said that currently, the Aga Khan University Hospital has started using artificial intelligence as an important tool for the improvement of the health sector. This tool will help in collecting data on patients and their diseases, analyzing and planning treatment, and will also help in important administrative matters.
In response to another question regarding patients and treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital, he said that through artificial intelligence, any type of cancer tumor in the body can be identified immediately through radiology X-ray, CT scan and MRI. Similarly, this technology will help in the immediate detection of diseases through blood tests.
It should be noted that various institutions around the world have started working in different fields through AI technology, but in Pakistan, no work on this technology or information about AI has been started in any institution, including the government level.
According to a spokesperson for Dow University, an institute is being established in the university regarding AI. In this regard, the vice-chancellor of the university said that the health system is being transformed through artificial intelligence and this technology will bring further changes in the field of medicine.
