A US lawmaker has proposed a new law that would impose heavy fines on users of the Chinese AI app DeepSeek.
According to a foreign news agency, the bill, introduced by Republican Senator Josh Hawley, aims to prevent American citizens from using Chinese artificial intelligence.
After the law is approved, the import of technology made in China will be blocked and violators will face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $1 million, and if the violation is committed by a business, the fine will increase to $100 million.
Although the law does not name DeepSec, it has been introduced just a week after the introduction of the Chinese chatbot, which has become the most popular AI app in the US at the moment and is hurting US tech stocks.
It should be noted that US President Donald Trump has declared the Chinese app an alarm bell for the American tech industry.
