Lahore: The Punjab government has prepared a draft law to empower Deputy Commissioner and Home Secretary under Section 144.
The Punjab Government has decided to amend the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898, under which the Deputy Commissioners and Home Secretary will be empowered to enforce Section 144.
The Deputy Commissioners will be empowered to enforce Section 144, the Deputy Commissioner will be able to enforce Section 144 in his district for thirty days, similarly the Home Secretary will be able to enforce Section 144 in the entire province for 90 days. This draft law will be approved by the Punjab Assembly.
It should be noted that earlier the powers of Section 144 were available to District Nazim.
