The implementation of Section 144 across Punjab was challenged in the Lahore High Court.
An application has been filed in the Lahore High Court on behalf of Azhar Siddique Advocate, in which the Punjab Government, Home Secretary Punjab and the Deputy Commissioner have been made parties.
The petitioner said that the implementation of Section 144 in Punjab was done on political grounds, Section 144 was imposed to stop the peaceful protest of a political party.
It has been requested in the petition that the court declares the notification of Section 144 null and void and the enforcement of Section 144 be suspended until the final decision of the petition.
It should be noted that last day (July 25), the Punjab Home Department had imposed Section 144 for 3 days across the province, justifying the fears of terrorism.
Under Section 144, a ban has been imposed on public gatherings, rallies, sit-ins and protests across Punjab.
A notification was issued by the Punjab Home Department, according to which the ban will be applicable from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, July 28.
In the ongoing notification, it was said that Section 144 has been imposed to maintain peace, protect human lives and property.
The Punjab Home Department had said that the ban was imposed in view of the threat of terrorism.
The notification said that public gatherings can be easy targets for terrorists, and Section 144 has been implemented across the province in public interest.
The notification said that the administration across Punjab would ensure the implementation of the order, it also directed mass publicity for the implementation of Section 144 for public awareness.
