Islamabad: A statement on the visit of the IMF mission to Pakistan was issued, in which discussions with Pakistani officials on economic issues were described as positive.
The IMF said that Pakistan needs to strictly implement the goals of the current loan program.
Mission Chief Nathan Porter has said that strict implementation of the goals of the loan program can improve the quality of life of the people, the government is committed to increasing tax revenue from non-taxpaying sectors.
According to the statement, discussions were held with the federal government as well as provincial governments, and representatives of the private sector were also discussed, during which discussions were held on increasing the role of provinces in social security and development, and special discussions were held on reforms and challenges in the energy sector in Pakistan.
The mission chief said that the recent talks were held for the IMF’s six-monthly review, and the talks reviewed the government’s performance for economic reforms, policies and development.
The IMF described the talks with Pakistan as overall positive, emphasizing the need to increase the private sector’s share in several sectors and limit the government’s share in some sectors.
The IMF said that talks with Pakistan were held from November 12 to 15 under the leadership of Mission Chief Nathan Porter, in which the attitude of Pakistani officials was very encouraging and supportive. The IMF Executive Board will be informed about the talks with Pakistani officials and the delegation will visit Pakistan again in the first quarter of next year, 2025.
