The Wall Street Journal has claimed that X chief Elon Musk and a group of other investors have offered to buy ChatGPT’s owner OpenAI for $97.4 billion.
The New York Times described the situation as an escalation in a years-long private tussle over artificial intelligence between Elon Musk and OpenAI’s chief executive Sam Altman. Although both figures were founders of OpenAI, they are now on the same page with Sam Altman on the board of directors.
Sam Altman responded to his former partner at X by saying, “Thank you, but if you want, we will buy Twitter for $9.74 billion.”
In response, Elon Musk called Sam Altman a “scammer.”
According to sources close to the matter, OpenAI has not reviewed the offer. The offer was made by a consortium that includes VY Capital and Shai (Elon Musk’s AI company), while OpenAI has decided to focus on the fundraising effort.
