New figures show that prescriptions for the diabetes and weight loss drug Ozempic are being given in higher numbers than ever before.
Ozempic helps the body produce more insulin, reduces the amount of sugar produced in the body and slows down digestion.
Early last year, the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) introduced tirzepatide, commonly known as Mounjaro, as an alternative for diabetics due to a shortage of Ozempic.
Data from the NHS Open Prescribing Service shows that Ozempic was prescribed an average of 489 times a month in the year to November.
This is a significant increase from 226 a year earlier.
