Closing ceremony of RAPAK was held in Islamabad on 27th of February 2025. The (RAPAK) project was funded by the European Union and Ministry of Interior of Austria in the framework of the Migration Partnership Facility (MPF) and implemented by ICMPD.
Closing ceremony was attended by FIA Senior Officers, representatives of Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Smuggling and Trafficking, alongside international colleagues from the European Union, Austria, embassies and international organisations present in Islamabad.
Under this project, the Risk Analysis Unit (RAU), was established at FIA Headquarter with state-of-the-art IT equipment, and FIA analysts, who were trained to advanced level on Risk profiling of suspicious Passengers.
The ceremony commenced with opening remarks and a welcome address by Sandrine Reversat, International Relations Officer, International Affairs Unit, Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs (DG HOME) of the European Commission, and Sedef Dearing, Deputy Director General of ICMPD.
Following this, William Huddleston, RAPAK Project Manager at ICMPD, presented an overview of the project’s progress and achievements, highlighting the key milestones reached during its implementation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Additional Director General (ADG) FIA, Abbas Ahsan, emphasized the strategic importance of the RAPAK project in enhancing migration governance and Pakistan’s ability to counter human smuggling and trafficking. Further elaborating on the impact, ADG Immigration stated; “The Risk Analysis Unit has already made a marked impact on FIA’s efforts to disrupt dangerous journeys from Pakistan, which too often end in tragedy. With enhanced risk profiling, FIA has significantly increased the interception of suspicious travelers at our external borders.”
The ceremony concluded with an address by Fawad Haider, Head of Office, ICMPD Pakistan, who highlighted the project’s impact and future prospects. This was followed by the distribution of certificates among the staff of the Risk Analysis Unit (RAU), who recently completed their training on risk analysis.
