Shadab XI defeated Afghanistan, a strong contender for the semi-finals, by a huge margin of 144 runs in Group A of the Champions Trophy.
The first warm-up match in the preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy was played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday, with all-rounder Shadab Khan captaining Pakistan Shaheens.
Batting first, Pakistan Shaheens posted a huge total of 314/8 in the allotted 50 overs thanks to half-centuries from Hussain Talat, Mohammad Irfan Khan and Mohsin Riaz.
Hussain Talat was the top scorer with 70 runs, followed by Mohsin and Irfan with 61 and 57 runs respectively.
Chasing the target, Afghanistan’s batting unit was all out for just 170 runs in 38.4 overs and they had to face defeat before the start of the mega event.
Captain Shadab Khan took 3 wickets for 29 runs for Shaheens.
After the defeat to Shaheens, the Afghan team will play its second warm-up match against New Zealand on February 16 at the National Stadium Karachi.
On the other hand, Pakistan Shaheens will face South Africa at the National Stadium in Karachi on February 17, while its other squad will be in action against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on the same day.
