Experts have found that more people with lung cancer are now living longer.
Lung cancer is the deadliest cancer in the United States, but a new report that looks at cancer cases state by state shows that more people with lung cancer are now living longer.
“There’s still more work to do, but I’m incredibly optimistic about the future of lung cancer care because of the evidence that shows lung cancer survival rates have improved and there’s room for more,” said Harold Wimmer, president and CEO of the American Lung Association (ALA).
According to the report, lung cancer survival rates have improved by 26 percent in the past five years.
But the report notes that access to cancer testing, also known as molecular, genomic or genetic testing, is still uneven.
Additionally, only 15 states require comprehensive insurance coverage for cancer, while another five require some insurance plans to include it.
