DOHA: The Qatari Foreign Ministry has said that the situation in Syria is being reviewed so that the embassy can be reopened.
According to a foreign news agency report, a statement issued by the Qatari Foreign Ministry said that a delegation from Qatar has arrived in Damascus to pave the way for the restoration of the embassy in Syria.
The Qatari embassy in Damascus was closed in July 2011 when then President Bashar al-Assad launched the worst operations against the protesters and a massacre took place.
Bashar al-Assad committed the worst atrocities in the streets and alleys of Syria to crush the protesters.
Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had said that Turkey’s new chargé d’affaires in Syria, Burhan, is going to the capital Damascus with his team and will start working to restore the embassy and consulates there.
On the other hand, Qatar and other Arab states, at a meeting of foreign ministers in Jordan, announced their support for a peaceful transition of power in Syria and called on the interim government to ensure that all stakeholders are represented in power.
The Arab foreign ministers urged the Syrian government to take non-discriminatory measures to prevent ethnic, sectarian and religious divisions and save Syria from chaos.
