South Indian actress Rania Rao has accused the Department of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials of harassing and mocking her during her interrogation. Rania Rao was arrested at the Bangalore airport on charges of smuggling gold from Dubai.
During the court hearing, Rania Rao claimed that she was threatened and harassed during the interrogation. She said that if she did not answer the questions, the officials would threaten her and say, ‘You know what will happen if you do not speak’. She further said that she was not physically harmed but verbally abused, which caused her severe mental stress.
On the other hand, the investigating officer told the court that Rania Rao was not mistreated by the DRI officials. He said that Rania Rao kept refusing to answer the questions during the interrogation and remained silent every time.
According to the investigating officer, despite showing evidence and asking specific questions to Rania Rao, she did not get any answers. He added that as soon as Rania Rao entered the court, her lawyer had given her instructions on what to say.
After these statements, the judge asked Rania Rao’s lawyers whether they were influencing her statements. The court proceedings are ongoing and the facts will come out after further investigation.
