Abu Dhabi has set its sights on becoming the world’s first city to operate air taxis by the end of 2025, with a deal to operate an air taxi service.
The UAE capital will also see the development of electric-vertical-take-off-and-landing (EVTOL) aircraft, following a deal with local US company Archer Aviation.
If the project is successful, Archer’s Midnight craft will be able to move between multiple ‘vertical ports’ built across the city with four passengers, reducing travel times by up to 80%.
According to a company spokesperson, the Midnight has the same safety profile as commercial airliners, while it is 100 times quieter than a helicopter when flying at high altitudes.
