Rawalpindi: In the 14 recorded cases of the May 9 tragedy in Rawalpindi, former Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi and member of the Provincial Assembly Umar Tanveer Butt made statements against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi as witnesses and confessions under Section 164. Denied.
While recording their statements in the court, the duo said that they never gave a confessional statement and that the police stand is a lie, adding that the founder chairman always directed peaceful protests. Both also filed petitions for acquittal for lack of evidence.
Today, Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi and Umar Tanveer Butt appeared in front of Judge Malik Ijaz Asif of the Special Anti-Terrorism Court and denied the confessional statement and stated that we have become witnesses against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. The statement was not made before a magistrate or in writing.
He told the court that Imran Khan always taught us peaceful struggle, there is no truth in our statements regarding serious allegations against Imran Khan.
Faisal Malik Advocate has filed an application on behalf of both, which the court has made part of the record of all the cases. Bushra Bibi was named by the police in May 9 tragedy cases based on the same statements.
The court has also issued notices approving the pleas of acquittal for lack of evidence for hearing.
