Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has refused to apologize for his harsh words with US President Donald Trump, which is raising fears of further strain in relations.
The meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Friday turned into a bitter exchange. The two leaders made harsh accusations against each other over the ceasefire with Russia.
During this time, President Zelensky tried to respond several times, but President Trump did not give him a chance to speak. As a result, the Trump administration canceled the remaining engagements, sent Zelensky from the White House and also canceled the joint press conference.
After leaving the White House, the Ukrainian president refused to apologize for the harsh words, saying, “What happened in the White House today was not good. If possible, I will not go there again.”
He acknowledged that Ukraine does not have enough weapons to expel Russia from its territory and that it will be difficult to stop the Russian offensive without American support. President Zelensky added that “relations with the United States can be saved, we do not want to lose the United States as a partner.”
After this incident, there are fears of increasing tensions in the relations between the two countries at the international level.
