Doha: After the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh in Iran, the central leaders of Hamas sat together for consultation to elect the leader.
According to the World News Agency, after the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh, many names are coming forward for the new head of Hamas, but among them, Khalid Meshaal and Khalil Al-Hiya are heavy.
Many central Hamas leaders are in favor of Khalid Meshaal, but central leader Yahya al-Sinwar and others have suggested appointing Khalil al-Hiya as the head of Hamas’ political wing due to Khalil al-Hiya’s strong ties to Iran and Syria.
According to the sources, a proposal is also under consideration that the head of Hamas be handed over temporarily to either Khalid Meshaal or Khalil al-Hayya and the permanent head should be decided later after long consultations and considering the circumstances.
Consultations between the central leaders are still ongoing and no deadline has been given as to when the process will be completed.
It should be remembered that on July 31, the head of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, was martyred in a guest house in Tehran when he arrived at the hotel for the night after attending the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Iranian president.
Hamas and Revolutionary Guards blamed Israel for the attack, but Israel has not yet denied or confirmed it.
