SYDNEY: A study has found that walking can be a cheap and easy way to deal with persistent back pain.
Researchers found in the study that people who received coaching from a physical therapist with an average of 30 minutes of walking five times a week spent almost twice as much time pain-free as those who received no treatment.
The researchers said that regular walking reduced the time taken to take a break by almost half, along with an improvement in patients’ quality of life.
The results show that walking has a clear impact on the leading cause of disability worldwide, scientists said in a study published in the journal Lancet.
Mark Hancock, professor of physiotherapy at Macquarie University in Australia, said that walking is a low-cost, widely available and simple exercise that can be done by anyone regardless of geography, age or socioeconomic status. Is.
In the study, scientists examined more than 700 people who had recently recovered from three years of low back pain.
Half were given walking sessions with a physiotherapist while the other half were given no such facility but could go for treatment if symptoms returned.
