ISLAMABAD: The United States has announced additional sanctions on four entities linked to Pakistan’s ballistic missile program. The sanctions are aimed at preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems following concerns over Pakistan’s development of long-range missiles.
According to the US State Department, the four entities designated for sanctions include Pakistan’s National Development Complex, which oversees the ballistic missile program, as well as Affiliates International, Akhtar & Sons Private Limited, and Rockside Enterprises, which allegedly provided missiles and missile-related equipment for Pakistan’s missile program.
These entities are accused of being or may be playing a role in the material proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The sanctions were imposed under Executive Order (EO) 13382, which targets weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems.
The US State Department reiterated its commitment to take action against proliferation activities. These latest sanctions follow sanctions imposed by the US in September 2023, when it targeted a Chinese research institute and several companies supporting Pakistan’s missile program.
In October 2023, additional restrictions were imposed on Chinese-based firms supplying Pakistan with missile-related materials.
The US government has made it clear that it will continue to take action against Pakistan’s activities that support the development and delivery of long-range missiles.
