New York: The member states of the United Nations called for a formal demand to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories within 12 months.
The text is based on an advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice that declared Israel’s occupation since 1967 illegal.
The opinion issued at the request of the United Nations General Assembly said that Israel has a responsibility to end its illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territory as soon as possible.
Palestine’s ambassador to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, said that the pressure of the international community in the General Assembly and the pressure of the ICJ’s historic decision will be used to force Israel to change its attitude.
A vote will be held today at 11 am local time on the draft resolution, which calls for Israel to end its illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territory without delay.
