President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he will sign an order imposing heavy tariffs on goods from Mexico, Canada and China as soon as he takes the oath of office.
Donald Trump said in a post on his social media platform “Truth” that he will increase the current tariffs on imported goods from Mexico and Canada by 25 percent and on goods from China by another 10 percent.
Trump further said that the tariffs on Mexico and Canada will remain in place until these two countries stop drug trafficking and illegal immigration into the United States.
The president-elect said that both Mexico and Canada have the full right and power to resolve this issue easily and it is time for them to do so or else they will pay the price.
In another post, Donald Trump said that China will be subject to an additional 10% tax until it fulfills its promise to impose the death penalty on drug dealers.
It should be remembered that the United States holds China responsible for the smuggling of fentanyl (a drug more addictive than heroin) into the United States.
The administration of current US President Joe Biden had also urged China to take more steps to stop the production of fentanyl, which killed about 75,000 Americans last year.
To which the Chinese spokesperson said that the assumption that China was fully aware of or knowingly allowed the promotion and distribution of fentanyl ingredients in the United States is completely contrary to the facts.
The Chinese spokesperson added that no one will win a trade or tax war. Economic and trade cooperation between the two countries is necessary to achieve common interests.
