Turko: New research shows that not sitting on sofas and chairs too much can prevent your back pain from getting worse.
Finnish researchers found that when people with back pain sat a little less each day, their pain was less likely to worsen over the next six months.
Jova Norha, a professor at the University of Turku and lead author of the study, suggests that if you have back pain, want to sit more, but are also concerned about the health of your back, you should work at work. Or find ways to sit less in your spare time.
Juva Norha and her team note that the effects of prolonged sitting on back health and back pain have not been studied extensively, which makes this recent study important.
