Lausanne: A new study has found that excessive light at night can increase the risk of Alzheimer’s disease in an affected person.
Researchers report that people who live in areas with high light at night may have an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease, especially in middle-aged people.
Researchers report in the journal Frontiers in Neuroscience that exposure to high levels of light at night is more strongly associated with Alzheimer’s disease in people 65 and older than with alcoholism, kidney disease, depression and obesity.
Experts also said that exposure to light also poses a greater risk to the brains of people under the age of 65.
For the study, researchers analyzed the lightest regions in 48 continental states, comparing them with national data on the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease and factors for degenerative brain disease.
