Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan, Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi and Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan took oath as Supreme Court judges.
Dr. Quba Ayaz was sworn in as an ad hoc judge of the Shariat Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa took oath, the ceremony was held in the Supreme Court, Supreme Court judges, attorney general, senior lawyers participated in the oath taking ceremony.
It should be noted that yesterday the Ministry of Law and Justice issued a notification for the appointment of three judges including two judges of the Lahore High Court to the Supreme Court.
According to the announcement issued by the Ministry of Law, President Asif Ali Zardari approved the appointment of three judges in the Supreme Court by using the powers given in Clause (1) of Article 177 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
These judges include Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi of Sindh High Court, Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan of Lahore High Court and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan of Lahore High Court.
Apart from this, the President appointed Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, a senior peony judge of the Lahore High Court, as acting Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court.
Shujaat Ali Khan will continue to perform these duties until the appointment of Chief Justice of the High Court by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan.
Similarly, the President of Pakistan appointed the senior judge of the Sindh High Court, Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui, as the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court.
