Lahore: There is a fear of flood situation in the rivers of Punjab in the next 24 hours, in view of which the PDMA and administration have been put on high alert.
According to PDMA spokesperson, high level flood is expected in Marala Khanki and Kadirabad in Chenab River, the level of flood water in Chenab River is expected to increase from 2 lakh cusecs to 2.5 lakh cusecs.
40,000 to 55,000 cusecs of water will pass from Jasar and Shahdara in Ravi river, while there is a medium level flood in Nala Bayan and a low level flood situation in Pulko. The low level flood situation in Indus River continues.
DG Irfan Kathia says that in view of the possible flood situation, the PDMA administration is on high alert and all arrangements are complete. Instructions have been issued to the administrations adjacent to river Chenab, Ravi and canals to remain alert, while according to the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the citizens are being informed about the possible danger.
DGPDM has given instructions to ensure the evacuation of the citizens living in the banks of the rivers and requested the public to avoid unnecessary travel around the rivers and canals. Stay away from rivers and streams in case of flood situation, cooperate with authorities in case of emergency evacuation.
Irfan Kathia said that the Punjab government is providing all the basic facilities in the flood relief camp, citizens are requested not to put their lives and property at risk.
According to DGPDMA, water flow in all rivers, barrages, dams and canals is being continuously monitored. Monitoring of all situation is going on from PDMA control room, in case of emergency call PDMA helpline 1129.
