KARACHI: The Sindh High Court rejected the plea of lawyers against the proposed constitutional amendments.
The petition filed by the lawyers against the proposed constitutional amendments was heard in the Sindh High Court, in which Chief Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui remarked that how can the court interfere when the amendment has not been made? How to determine whether the amendment is legal or not before the amendment?
Ibrahim Saifuddin Advocate told the court that the draft of the constitutional amendment has been brought in the assembly, on which the Chief Justice said that you came here with the application? There are 24 crore people’s elected representatives sitting in the assembly. The court interrogated the lawyer and inquired whether he had read the judgment of the Supreme Court on the Practice and Procedure Act, to which the lawyer said that he had read the judgment.
The Chief Justice Sindh High Court inquired that despite this you dared to file such an application? How is this application hearable? .
The lawyer argued that the constitutional amendments are against public rights and an attack on the judiciary. Before the amendment, the draft should be brought before the Bar Councils and Bar Associations, there should be a discussion.
The Chief Justice inquired under which law to order the submission of the draft before Barconsuls and Lawyers Organizations? The application is filed by writing 3, 4 lines, then the news is published in the newspapers. How can we go against the decision of the 15-member bench of the Supreme Court?
The lawyer said that it is important to take the people into confidence, to which the Chief Justice replied that there are 24 crore people’s representatives in the Assembly.
It should be noted that the petition against the proposed constitutional amendments was filed by Ghulam Rehman Korai and others, which was rejected by the Sindh High Court.
