Rawalpindi: Former Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram, who is missing in mysterious circumstances under the influence of allegations of providing facilities to founder PTI during his captivity in Adiala Jail Rawalpindi, has further increased his difficulties. A show cause notice was issued for serious negligence in duties.
According to sources, the Punjab Home Department had started an inquiry into the death of a mentally ill prisoner and injuries to two others during the posting of former Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram in Adiala. A show cause notice has been issued for the alleged negligence.
According to sources, former Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram is also facing charges of allegedly ‘facilitating’ the PTI founder and a case has also been registered against him for allegedly being abducted from the official residence of the prison colony on August 14.
It should be remembered that the departmental action against the former deputy superintendent was initiated on February 29 of this year after the murder of an inmate in the mental ward of Adiala Jail and injuries to two other inmates.
Prisoner Muhammad Ehsan used a water cup to remove a brick from the wall of cell number 8 and attacked other prisoners while they were sleeping. As a result, Ijaz Rabbani, Shiraz, and Hammad Ali, prisoners were seriously injured and were shifted to Islamabad (PIMS) Hospital, where Ijaz Rabbani succumbed to his injuries. Mian Farooq Nazir had ordered an inquiry and DIG Prisons Rawalpindi Region Rana Rauf had started the investigation while the case of murder of prisoners who were killed and injured as a result of the alleged torture of a prisoner in the prison was also requested by the prison administration. But the police station was registered in Sadar Baruni.
Jail sources said that severe departmental punishment will be given to Mohammad Akram, which may include dismissal, if the answer to the ongoing show-cause notice is not satisfactory.
