Rawalpindi: The last rites of a soldier who sacrificed his life for the motherland during the anti-terror operation were performed in Karam. Prime Minister and Army Chief also participated in the ceremony.
According to the Public Relations Department of the Pakistan Army (ISPR), the last rites of 29-year-old soldier Haroon William, a resident of Islamabad, were performed at St. Paul’s Church, Rawalpindi. Christian soldier Aaron William made the eternal sacrifice in defense of the motherland while on duty in anti-terrorist operations in Kurram district yesterday.
The funeral ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Defense Minister, Interior Minister, Information and Broadcasting Minister, Chief of Army Staff, senior civil and military officers, soldiers, civilians and relatives. The Prime Minister appreciated the services and sacrifices of the Christian community while appreciating their role in the development of the country.
The Prime Minister said on the occasion that the armed forces of Pakistan are a cohesive unit, which includes people from different schools of thought, who are striving for the collective defense of the state.
Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir paid tribute to the sacrifices of Sepoy Haroon William, Sepoy Anush Rafoon and their comrades. He said that their unity and bravery is an example of the strength of the nation. The nation will always be indebted to his services and sacrifices for the defense of the motherland.
Later, Sepoy Haroon William was laid to rest in Rawalpindi with full military honours. Havildar Aqeel Ahmed (Okara), Lance Naik Mohammad Tafir (Poonch), Sepoy Anush Rafoon (Attack) and Sepoy Mohammad Azam Khan (Haripur) were also cremated with full military honors in their native areas.
ISPR says that the armed forces of Pakistan are committed to eradicating terrorism from the motherland.
