According to the Wholesale Grocers Association, the prices of pulses in the world market have decreased by more than 100 dollars per ton, as a result of which the price of pulses per ton has decreased from 860 dollars to less than 750 dollars per ton. According to Chairman Ruf Ibrahim, due to the cessation of purchasing activities by India and Sri Lanka, the prices of pulses in the world market have decreased, while Pakistan is the only country in the region that is able to meet its needs. He is buying pulses for this. The local importers of pulses are losing crores of rupees due to falling prices in the international market.
According to the association, since September, the price of black gram has decreased by Rs. 50 per kg. During this month and next month, 6 ships are sending consignments of pulses to Pakistan. After the arrival of these six ships, the price of pulses may further fall by Rs 250. According to Ruf Ibrahim, the price of pulses sold at 400 rupees per kg has now increased to 360 rupees, which will be available at 300 rupees by next month.
Similarly, the price of dal mash per kg has come down from Rs 500 to Rs 425 per kg. Kabuli gram first grade has decreased from Rs 400 to Rs 355 per kg and Kabuli gram small grain has decreased from Rs 320 to Rs 295 per kg. The association has advised the Commissioner Karachi to take practical measures to pass on the benefit of lower prices of pulses to the common consumer at the retail level.
