Lahore: Leader of Awam Pakistan Party and former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that the regulation of power sector in Pakistan is very weak. We destroyed the economy not by IPPs.
He expressed these views while discussing the issues of power sector, IPP issue and solutions in the discussion of Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Pakistan. The moderator and energy expert was Tahir Basharat Cheema.
Shahid Khaqan further said that the issue needs to be understood. Not 46 or 42 thousand MW in Pakistan. IPPs were the same 10 years back but that was not the problem. IPPs made profit but not forcefully. I myself believe that there was corruption in IPPs. The tariff given by the government is what was received.
