After the 26th constitutional amendment came into effect, it was decided to immediately set up a nomination committee for the appointment of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
The speaker of the National Assembly asked the names of the committee members from the parliamentary leaders, according to the sources, the process of forming the parliamentary committee for the appointment has started.
8 members for the committee will be taken from the National Assembly and 4 from the Senate. A panel of three senior judges will be called from the Ministry of Law and the committee will select the Chief Justice from the panel of judges.
After the approval of President Asif Ali Zardari, the gazette notification of the 26th Constitutional Amendment was issued, the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2024 became an Act of Parliament.
