ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has approved the petitions related to the success of the League candidates in the recount of votes in three constituencies of the National Assembly.
In the Supreme Court, the petitions of the League candidates against the decision of the Lahore High Court were heard in three constituencies of the National Assembly.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa approved the appeals of the PML-N candidates while pronouncing a safe decision. The Supreme Court annulled the decision of the Lahore High Court and reinstated the decision of the Election Commission regarding the recounting of votes in NA 154 Lodhran, NA 81 Gujranwala and NA 79 Gujranwala.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan delivered the verdict by a majority of 2:1. Justice Aqeel Abbasi disagreed with the majority decision.
The majority decision said that the Election Commission is a constitutional institution that deserves respect, the judges of the Lahore High Court made unnecessary remarks about the head and members of the Election Commission, the decision of the Lahore High Court cannot be upheld.
In the general elections, three independent candidates belonging to Tehreek-e-Insaaf, Rana Faraz Noon from NA-154, Bilal Ejaz from NA-81 Gujranwala and Ehsanullah Wark from NA-79 Gujranwala were declared successful candidates.
Abdul Rehman Kanju, Azhar Qayyum Nara and Zulfiqar Ahmed of PML-N approached the election for recount. After the re-counting, the Election Commission declared the three PML-N candidates successful.
The decision of the Election Commission was challenged by independent members in the Lahore High Court under a writ petition. The Lahore High Court annulled the decision of the Election Commission and declared the three candidates as successful candidates.
The PML-N members approached the Supreme Court against the decision of the Lahore High Court. The Supreme Court approved the appeals of the PML-N candidates by restoring the decision of the Election Commission through a majority decision. After the decision of the Supreme Court, the three members of the National Assembly were declared successful.
