KARACHI: The case against the move to allow phone tapping by the secret agency was challenged in the Sindh High Court, the application was fixed for hearing on July 22.
The counsel for the petitioner has argued that allowing the phone tapping is illegal and unconstitutional. Phone tapping is tantamount to invasion of private life. This is a violation of right of privacy as well as international treaty.
In the UK and other countries, permission must be obtained from the relevant court and government before phone tapping. The government should be ordered to review the said decision.
The hearing of the constitutional petition filed in the Sindh High Court has been fixed for July 22. Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Law, Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting have been made parties in the petition.
