Syria’s new leadership revoked the country’s constitution and dissolved the parliament, appointing Abu Muhammad al-Julani (Ahmed Hussain al-Shara), head of the rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, as the country’s interim president.
According to Syria’s official news agency SANA, Ahmed al-Shara has also been authorized to form a temporary legislative council in the interim government, which will function until the approval of a new constitution.
Hassan Abdul Ghani, spokesman for the Syrian interim government’s military operations, said that the 2012 constitution and laws adopted under the emergency procedure have also been revoked.
Hassan Abdul Ghani said that all armed factions have been dissolved, they will now be integrated into state institutions, he also announced the dissolution of the Baath Party, which has ruled Syria for decades.
