While hearing the case against overloading of heavy vehicles, Justice Jamal Mandokhel has remarked that the number of deaths due to accidents is more than those due to terrorism or diseases.
A five-member constitutional bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan heard the case against overloading of heavy vehicles.
During the hearing, Barrister Zafarullah took the stand that the real problem is the location of overloading of vehicles, unless action is taken against the loading locations, control cannot be achieved.
Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel remarked that the number of deaths due to accidents is more than those due to terrorism or diseases. He inquired whether the government has the number of deaths due to accidents, the whole issue is about the implementation of the law.
Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi remarked that two-foot-deep potholes in the roads of Port Qasim, Korangi, and Industrial Area cause accidents.
The public prosecutor took the position that many laws have been changed and the fines have been increased.
Justice Aminuddin Khan remarked that we will issue a detailed order on this case and the case will remain pending until then.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar remarked that the problem of overloading has to be solved in collaboration with the provincial governments and all stakeholders.
