The Supreme Court Bar Association has demanded the resignation of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur.
President of the Supreme Court Bar Association Mian Rauf Atta issued a statement on the grand operation against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf protesters in D-Chowk, Islamabad yesterday.
The statement said that the Supreme Court Bar Association has always raised the voice of the rule of law, fundamental rights, civilian supremacy, the Supreme Court Bar cannot turn a blind eye to brutal and condemnable actions.
President of the Supreme Court Bar Mian Rauf Atta said that there is great concern over the direct firing of bullets on unarmed protesters, such brutal force was used on the orders of the Federal Interior Minister, we demand the immediate resignation of Mohsin Naqvi.
He said that the Federal Interior Minister was handling the entire situation incorrectly with an authoritarian mindset, and those killed as a result of this barbarity were our Pakistani citizens.
He said that the Federal Interior Minister is not an elected representative of the people, and that loss of life could have been avoided through dialogue and negotiations. He demanded that the federal government hand over the portfolio of the Interior Minister to a public representative.
The statement said that the Supreme Court Bar also demands the resignation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. Human lives were lost and dozens of people were seriously injured in the clash between protesters and law enforcement agencies.
The President of the Supreme Court Bar said that Ali Amin Gandapur had repeatedly tried to attack the federation and was ruthlessly wasting government resources to fulfill his unconstitutional desires.
He said that the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is in the grip of unrest in his own province, while countless lives were lost on both sides yesterday, law enforcement officials, civilians suffered losses, and we demand a judicial inquiry into the matter without any delay.
He further said that our hearts are with the families of those who have lost their loved ones.
It may be recalled that the PTI, which announced the ‘final call’ of the protest for the release of Imran Khan on November 24, yesterday announced the postponement of the protest in Islamabad, citing ‘government brutality’.
In a message on social media X, the PTI spokesperson said that in view of the government brutality and the government’s plan to turn the capital into a slaughterhouse for unarmed civilians, we are announcing the postponement of the peaceful protest for the time being.
It should be noted that after a joint operation by Rangers and police around D-Chowk, Blue Area and Jinnah Avenue in Islamabad late last night, PTI leaders and workers were dispersed, while PTI had announced to end the protest.
Workers had expressed intense anger at the PTI leadership for retreating from D-Chowk, during which a container specially prepared by PTI for the protest caught fire.
