Cape Town: Mohsin Hendricks, believed to be the world’s first gay imam, was shot dead in South Africa.

According to police, Mohsin Hendricks was in a car with another person when a car stopped in front of them. Two unknown assailants opened fire on the vehicle, killing Mohsin Hendricks on the spot, while the driver who was with him survived.

Mohsin Hendricks belonged to the LGBTQ Muslim community and came out as gay in 1996. He led the prayer at the Al Ghurba Mosque near Cape Town, South Africa, which was considered a safe haven for gay Muslims.
