New Delhi: India has moved the resigned Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina Wajid to a secret place until she gets political asylum in the UK.
Shortly before the arrival of Sheikh Hasina Wajid in the Indian city of Agartala, in view of the deteriorating situation in Bangladesh, the Prime Minister of India called an emergency cabinet meeting on security.
Bangladesh TV has claimed in its news that the resigned Prime Minister has been moved to a secret location by India, adding that Sheikh Hasina Wajid wants to seek political asylum in the UK.
According to reports, Sheikh Hasina Wajid’s daughter Saima Wajid is staying in New Delhi, with whom Sheikh Hasina Wajid will soon meet.
Hundreds of people have been killed in violence in Bangladesh over the past month, and a civil disobedience movement by students continues.
The students demanded the resignation of Sheikh Hasina Wajid this week, to which Hasina Wajid called the students a handful of terrorists.
Sheikh Hasina Wajid’s statement further fueled the anger among the students, and intensified their protests.
After the protests escalated to such an alarming degree that the Bangladeshi army chief gave the prime minister a 45-minute deadline to resign, Sheikh Hasina Wajid tried to record a speech to the nation but was stopped.
After which she resigned from the Prime Minister’s palace and left for India by helicopter, thus ending her 15-year rule.
As the news of the Prime Minister’s resignation spread, a wave of joy spread among the protesters and the demonstrations turned into celebrations.
Yesterday Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-ul-Zaman while addressing the nation on TV decided to establish an interim government in the country.
But the leading leaders of the student movement have rejected the establishment of an interim government in the country by the Bangladesh Army Chief and demanded the formation of an interim government under the presidency of Nobel laureate Dr. Younis.
