The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) broke the silence on the rumors of the removal of Shan Masood, the captain in the Test format, and Babar Azam, the captain of the white ball format.
According to media reports, PCB sources say that speculations about the removal of Test captain Shaun Masood are just rumours, head coach Jason Gillespie and white ball format head coach Gary Kirsten want to give both captains a chance.
Reports say that there has been no discussion with the head coaches of the two formats on changing the captains as PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has left the captaincy decision to the coaches and selectors.
Jason Gillespie and Gary Kirsten say that Shaun Masood and Babar Azam should be retained as captains and that rash decisions should be avoided.
Reports claim that the topic of captaincy change is not expected to be discussed at the upcoming “Cricket Connection” workshop in Lahore later this month. The workshop aims to align domestic cricket standards with international expectations and will include input from domestic team coaches, selectors, and contracted players.
It should be noted that after the defeat of Pakistan in the historic Test series against Bangladesh and the poor performance under the leadership of Babar Azam in the T20 World Cup 2024, there are echoes of the change of captains.
It should be noted that the fans and former cricketers had taken it as a sign that the board had indicated that they would be removed from the captaincy after the two cricketers were not given the captaincy of the teams in the Champions ODI Cup.
