Due to the current political situation in Bangladesh, star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s dream of ending his Test career at home is likely to remain unfulfilled.
According to media reports, the star cricketer had announced his retirement from international cricket before the start of the Kanpur Test yesterday, but he will continue to represent the team in the ODI format.
Next year’s Champions Trophy in Pakistan will be his last ODI tournament after which he will retire from international cricket till March 2025.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Farooq Ahmed held a 4-hour-long meeting on September 26, which included decisions on Shakib-ul-Hasan’s future.
The board said that due to the current political tension, it could not guarantee whether Shakib Al Hasan would play the final Test at the home ground as he was unable to provide security.
The all-rounder has to make his own decision about his future because security is not in our hands, maybe the last Test match of the series against India will be the last match of Shakib Al Hasan’s career.
On the other hand, the Bangladeshi all-rounder is currently going through the toughest period in history, a case of cheating and murder has also been filed against him.
It should be noted that Shakib-ul-Hasan, who belongs to the party of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is facing murder charges in Bangladesh. He has not returned to Bangladesh since the overthrow of Hasina Wajid.
